A Disney Channel fever dream came to life in New Jersey when Demi Lovato joined the Jonas Brothers for a surprise ‘Camp Rock’ duet 15 years after the movie made them household names.
A Throwback Fans Didn’t See Coming
The opening night of the Jonas Brothers’ JONAS20 tour at MetLife Stadium already promised nostalgia. But mid-show, Joe Jonas invited an unexpected guest: Demi Lovato. The crowd’s reaction went from loud to deafening as the two launched into “Gotta Find You” and “This Is Me,” signature tracks from Disney Channel’s Camp Rock.
It was the first time they had performed the songs together in nearly a decade. “It’s been almost 10 years,” Joe told the audience. Demi countered with, “Might be longer,” and the cheers confirmed no one was counting, just soaking it in.
From Onscreen Love to Real-Life Romance
Joe and Demi’s history started in 2007 when they met on the Camp Rock set. Their characters, Shane Gray and Mitchie Torres, had a summer camp love story that spilled into real life…briefly. They confirmed they were dating in March 2010, but by June, their Teen Vogue cover story was already a breakup piece.
Even so, their split never turned bitter. Over the years, both have been candid about preserving their friendship. In 2016, Joe told E! News, “I don’t think of her as an ex. She’s family. We’ve gone through so much together, and we’re really close now.”
The Jonas Family Connection
Camp Rock wasn’t just a Joe-and-Demi project, Nick and Kevin Jonas also appeared in the film as fictional boyband Connect Three. Before Demi’s surprise entrance, Nick reminisced onstage about how their father helped get all three brothers into the movie. “I think it’s time we all walk down memory lane to celebrate a little movie called Camp Rock,” he said.
Making It a Full Disney Reunion Moment
After the concert, Joe and Demi took the nostalgia one step further by posting a lip sync video to Debby Ryan’s now-iconic “I wanna make history” Disney Channel audio. The move cemented the night as both a concert highlight and an internet moment.
For fans, the reunion wasn’t just about reliving a Disney original, it was about seeing two people who grew up in the spotlight together still able to share the stage with warmth and humor.
