Mary Beth Barone and Benito Skinner are taking their creative partnership from Prime Video to Hulu.
Barone is set to create, write, and star in Hard Feelings, a new romantic comedy series for A24. According to Deadline, Hulu secured the project after a competitive bidding process and has already fast-tracked it for development.
The series will mark Barone’s first time serving as both the creator and lead of a television show. She will play Claire Ambrose, one of New York City’s most sought-after dating consultants. Claire has built a career teaching straight men how to communicate and develop emotional intelligence, but her own dating life tells a very different story. Despite knowing exactly what a healthy relationship should look like, she keeps choosing men who seem to possess neither skill.

Benito Skinner Supports His Bestie
The outlet also confirmed Skinner will take on a supporting role in the series, though details about his character are being kept under wraps for now. The comedian will also executive produce the series alongside Barone, showrunner Scott King, Mackenzie Roussos of E360 and A24.
Hard Feelings extends a friendship and working relationship that has already produced several projects. Barone stars opposite Skinner in Prime Video’s queer comedy Overcompensating, where she plays Grace, the older sister of Skinner’s closeted college student Benny. She also writes for the A24 series, which recently wrapped production on its second season.
Off-screen, Barone and Skinner are longtime friends and co-host the popular podcast Ride, where they share weekly “rides,” or the people, places, and things currently bringing them joy.

Beyond her work on Overcompensating, Barone released her hour-long Netflix comedy special Galaxy Brain in July. The special later arrived as a comedy album through Universal Music’s MCA in August. Her first self-produced stand-up special, Thought Provoking, debuted in 2024.
Hulu has not announced a production timeline or release date for Hard Feelings, but we’re counting down the days for a new Barone and Skinner project.
