Lady Gaga is officially a girl mom, and the name she and fiancé Michael Polansky reportedly chose for their daughter appears to honor two meaningful parts of the singer’s life and career.
The couple welcomed a baby girl named Rose Bean Polansky on June 9, according to documents obtained by People. TMZ first reported the child’s name and sex, while Gaga and Polansky have not publicly commented on any details surrounding their child.
The Meaning Behind Rose Bean’s Name
An insider told the outlet that the name Rose was inspired by “La Vie en Rose,” the Edith Piaf classic Gaga performed in the 2018 film A Star Is Born. The song has held special significance for the singer for years. She even has a large rose tattoo running along her spine beside the words “la vie en rose” written in script.
The baby’s middle name may carry an especially touching connection to LGBTQ+ history. Bean is believed to be in honor of Carl Bean, the late singer, activist, and archbishop whose 1977 gay liberation anthem “I Was Born This Way” helped inspire Gaga’s own equality anthem decades later.
Gaga has repeatedly credited Bean and his trailblazing song while discussing the roots of “Born This Way.” The connection would make her daughter’s name a quiet but powerful tribute to a queer pioneer whose message became part of Gaga’s artistic legacy.
Gaga Is Embracing Her New Chapter
In a March 2025 interview with The New York Times, Gaga said she was ready to become a parent after previously feeling uncertain about motherhood.
