Sydney Mardi Gras Party 2027 Returns March 6, Going Underground at Allianz Stadium

The Sydney Mardi Gras Party 2027 runs March 6, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., in the tunnels under Allianz Stadium. Members get tickets Nov. 9, and the public sale opens Nov. 12.

The Sydney Mardi Gras Party returns Saturday, March 6, 2027, with a new home beneath Allianz Stadium. The adults-only event runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the stadium tunnels.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras announced the comeback Thursday, Nov. 5, Sydney time. “I know how much you missed it last year, and I missed it too,” CEO Jesse Matheson said at the launch, Rolling Stone Australia reported.

Members get first access to tickets Monday, Nov. 9, the magazine reported. The public sale starts at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, Sydney time. That is 4 p.m. Pacific and 7 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

“And I promised that if we brought it back, we would do it properly,” Matheson said. “One night. Multiple worlds. One way in. Until 6AM,” reads the official party page, which lists the event as 18+.

Sydney Mardi Gras Party 2027 Tickets, Prices and Lineup

The party page doesn’t list prices yet, and the full lineup is due Tuesday, Nov. 10, according to Rolling Stone Australia. “Think pulsating dance floors, spectacular production, world-class DJs, incredible performances and thousands of people coming together for one unforgettable night,” Matheson said.

A standard Mardi Gras membership costs A$50 a year, and international residents pay the same price, the membership page says. “Mardi Gras Members get exclusive ticket perks for our events, including Member-only prices and pre-sale access,” it says.

Mardi Gras is presenting the night with Kicks Entertainment and Bizarro, along with “exciting collaborations from local producers that centre queer Sydney culture,” according to the party page. Past headliners include gay icons Kylie Minogue and Cher, plus Dua Lipa, ABC News reported.

“The Mardi Gras Party, for generations, has been an event where friendships are formed, people found their community and unforgettable memories were made,” Matheson said Thursday.

Why Was the 2026 Mardi Gras Party Canceled?

Mardi Gras pulled the 2026 party on Feb. 3, 25 days before it was set to run, the ABC reported. “This decision was not taken lightly,” Matheson said then.

He blamed two years of “significant financial loss” and uncertain new sponsorship. The headline act fell through over the Christmas break, and a replacement dropped out too, the ABC reported. Matheson made a promise at the time: “And we’ll definitely find a solution for 2027, and we’ll come back louder and prouder than ever before.”

The party had run in the red each year since Mardi Gras lost the Royal Hall of Industries, now the Sydney Swans’ headquarters, the ABC said in a follow-up explainer. Matheson said Mardi Gras had been “constrained in the spaces that we were in the past” and was looking for a “larger space.”

“When you look at the security, venue hire and staff costs, all of these are driving the prices up and that increases the ticket price, which then becomes unaffordable for participants,” independent Sydney MP Alex Greenwich said, according to the ABC.

Kicks, which the ABC reported is partly owned by Live Nation, also had the 2026 contract. A Mardi Gras spokesperson said the partnership helped “stabilise costs and reduce organisational risk,” while the activist group Pride in Protest objected to the Live Nation tie, the ABC reported.

In the U.S., San Diego Pride’s executive director announced her resignation in October amid a six-figure deficit. “At a time when queer spaces and pride celebrations are disappearing and trans and gender diverse communities face renewed attacks on their rights, Mardi Gras matters now more than ever,” Matheson said Thursday.

Getting to the Tunnels Under Allianz Stadium in Moore Park

The venue sits at 44 Driver Ave. in Moore Park, “right where the parade ends,” the party page says. The Parade also takes place March 6, following the route from Hyde Park to Moore Park. Check the festival website for the latest viewing and schedule information.

“Catch a light rail service to Moore Park on the L2 Randwick or L3 Kingsford lines,” Transport for NSW advises. The walk from Central Station takes 20 to 25 minutes, the agency says, and “additional services will run between Central and Moore Park” during major events.

After this year’s party was canceled, the state lined up 24-hour metro, train and light rail service for parade night, Destination NSW announced Feb. 19. “Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is the pride of Australia’s major events calendar,” Jobs and Tourism Minister Steve Kamper said in that release. The party page doesn’t list 2027 transport details yet.

U.S. citizens need a visa or an approved Electronic Travel Authority before arriving, according to the State Department. “You can get it through the Australian ETA app for a small fee,” its Australia advisory says. “Australian federal law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation,” the page adds.

Hyperbloom Festival Runs Feb. 12 to March 7, 2027

The 49th festival, themed Hyperbloom, runs 24 days, from Feb. 12 to March 7, according to Mardi Gras. “HYPERBLOOM is an invitation to let everything within us come alive,” Mardi Gras said when it revealed the theme in August, City Hub reported.

Pop-rock duo Rogue Traders headlines Fair Day at Victoria Park on Feb. 14, Rolling Stone Australia reported, and the Parade lands one week before the NSW state election, which the NSW Electoral Commission has set for March 13. “Mardi Gras has always been both a celebration and a platform for change,” Matheson said.

“This will be a historic moment to share our messages, our wants, our needs to the voters and to the politicians alike,” he said.

Mardi Gras turns 50 in 2028, Rolling Stone Australia reported, and the 1978 protest march that began it saw 53 people arrested, City Hub noted. “For nearly 50 years, our community has challenged injustice, changed hearts and minds and made history,” Matheson said. “It’s half a century, and we’re only just getting started.”
