Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson is speaking up for the dolls. At the GQ Men of the Year party, Hutcherson spoke with Them and offered words of encouragement during Trans Awareness Week.
“F*ck the noise. Haters are gonna hate. Haters are just fans on a bad day. Just f*cking do you.”
At a moment when anti-trans legislation and rhetoric are flaring across the country, having people speaking up is more important than ever.
“Josh Hutcherson, the only male voice of our generation,” one user commented.
The Five Nights at Freddy’s actor also spoke on what advice he has for straight men who want to get a little fruity. “Just go for it. Just follow what your body is asking of you.”
Over a Decade of Allyship
Hutcherson’s solidarity isn’t situational. He’s been a committed supporter of LGBTQ+ people for over a decade. Back in 2012, he was honored with the Vanguard Award from GLAAD for his on-going advocacy — something he’s continued into adulthood.
And for him, it’s personal. His younger brother, Connor, came out publicly in a 2018 Instagram post from Bonnaroo’s Music and Arts Festival.
“I felt like I needed to come out in a public setting because I want to be an advocate for our community and support all people who desire to be themselves,” he wrote at the time.
Connor also spoke on coming out to his brother, which he also did at the festival.
“Some of my friends knew at the time, but he was the first person that had been in my life a long time to find out. Being in such a comfortable and accepting place with someone I loved made me want to be honest with myself and others.”
Josh also sparked fresh headlines on The Royal Court with Brittany Broski. When she asked him, “In Mockingjay Part 1, Peeta is brainwashed by the Capitol. What is something that would indicate to your friends that you had been hijacked? What’s something you would never say?” he shot back without blinking: “I’m a Republican?”
Unsurprisingly, social media absolutely lost its mind.

You can also see the actor in the newly renewed series I Love LA, the dramedy led by Rachel Sennott as Maia, an up-and-coming talent manager trying to hold her life together after her influencer bestie (Odessa A’zion) returns to town. Hutcherson plays Dylan, Maia’s boyfriend — joining a cast that also includes Jordan Firstman, True Whitaker, and more.
