Kim Kardashian, Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster and Brenda Song are officially teaming up for The Fifth Wheel, an upcoming Netflix comedy directed by Eva Longoria (Flamin’ Hot), and yes, production is already underway.
Written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito, The Fifth Wheel centers on a group of former high school best friends who reunite for a weekend trip to Las Vegas. According to the official logline, the trip is meant to be a nostalgic reset, but things quickly spiral when a “hot outsider” crashes the getaway. That outsider is the titular fifth wheel, played by Kardashian, and her arrival forces the group to confront messy lives, bad choices, and friendships that may not survive the weekend.
Joining the core cast are Jack Whitehall, Casey Wilson and Scott MacArthur, rounding out a lineup that blends stand-up comedy, sitcom energy and pop culture star power in a way that feels tailor-made for a big, glossy Netflix comedy.
The Fifth Wheel also marks a major milestone for Kardashian. While she has appeared in scripted projects before, including Hulu’s All’s Fair and Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, this is her first time leading a feature film. It is a notable step in her steadily expanding acting career and one that will undoubtedly have the internet watching closely.
The rest of the cast is having a moment too. Fortune Feimster recently made waves by voicing a lesbian beaver in Zootopia 2, a role that instantly became a fan favorite. Nikki Glaser is coming off hosting the Golden Globes for the second year in a row and is set to release a new comedy special on Hulu later this year, further cementing her status as one of the most visible comedians in the mainstream. Brenda Song also lent her voice to Zootopia 2 and most recently starred opposite Kate Hudson in Netflix’s series Running Point.
With Eva Longoria directing, Pell and Brito on the script, and a cast stacked with comedy heavy-hitters, The Fifth Wheel already feels like it is aiming squarely for big laughs and bigger personalities.
There is no release date yet, and for now, all Netflix has shared is a single photo confirming that cameras are rolling. Still, that was more than enough to spark curiosity online.
One thing is certain. This cast, this premise and a Vegas setting is a combination that is going to get people talking long before the movie actually drops.
