Cara Delevingne is speaking publicly about her past relationship with Amber Heard for the first time.

During a conversation on The Louis Theroux Podcast, the actor and model confirmed that she and Heard became romantically involved after Heard’s marriage to Johnny Depp ended, addressing years of speculation that had surrounded the pair.

Cara Delevingne Addresses Longstanding Rumors

When host Louis Theroux asked about longstanding rumors involving Heard, Depp and Delevingne, the “I Forgot” singer explained that the timeline many people assumed was incorrect.

Delevingne said she and Heard first grew close while working in the same creative circles, including around the production of London Fields. Although Depp was reportedly suspicious of their friendship, Delevingne said there was no romantic relationship while Heard was still married.

“I think he was pretty driven crazy by jealousy,” she said, before adding that “nothing was happening at that point.”

Asked whether anything happened later, Delevingne acknowledged that the relationship became romantic after Heard and Depp split.

“We were close for a long time,” she said. “Yeah, we were entangled, I suppose.”

She added that Heard “was also entangled with other people” during that period, prompting Theroux to mention entrepreneur Elon Musk, whom Heard dated following her separation from Depp.

Heard and Depp married in 2015 before Heard filed for divorce the following year. Their contentious legal battle remained in the spotlight for years, culminating in the widely publicized 2022 defamation trial. The case concluded with a jury largely siding with Depp, although Heard prevailed on one of her counterclaims. The former couple later reached a settlement that ended the litigation.

Reflecting on Her Journey

The podcast also gave Delevingne an opportunity to reflect on her journey as a queer woman and how much her perspective has changed over the years.

She recalled taking to heart comments from disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein, who warned her early in her career that being openly involved with women would hurt her chances in Hollywood.

“I really believed him, and I really took that to heart,” Delevingne said, adding that she now recognizes how much internalized homophobia shaped the way she viewed herself.

More recently, Delevingne has embraced her identity more openly than ever. In a recent interview with Variety, she said she’s proud to identify as a lesbian after years of resisting labels, crediting increased LGBTQ+ representation and community with helping her reach that place.

The actor has also been candid about finding lasting happiness in her personal life. During the podcast, Delevingne reflected on how her views on relationships have evolved, revealing that she has both proposed to a partner and accepted a proposal herself, but never felt drawn to traditional marriage. Instead, she said engagement once represented a sense of security.

“It was engagement that made me feel like they might not leave me,” she said.

Today, Delevingne says she’s in what feels like the first truly lasting love of her life. She has also shared that she hopes to build a family with her girlfriend, British singer-songwriter Minke.

Professionally, Delevingne is entering a new chapter as well. She recently released her debut singles, “I Forgot” and “Out of My Head,” after signing with Warner Records, and will next appear in Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
